HI Brenda,
Gatillo arrived Saturday morning at about 4:15 AM. He came off the trailer well
and walked up my driveway like a gentleman. My driveway is straight up a hill,
very curvy, with a stream on both sides of it, and it was dark out! Enough to
make any horse spook. He even walked past the tractor and cars parked up at the
top without spooking. He settled in right away eating hay and drinking in his
stall. I turned him out yesterday by himself in the arena. He was very excited
to see 18 other horses (well ponies actually) staring at him. Then once they
were not interested in coming up to say hi anymore, he got very upset. He ran
back and forth calling to them. I usually wait a few days before I turn anyone
out with a new horse so they can get a lot of sniffing in over the fence without
confrontation, but he was so upset about them not visiting, I knew he needed a
buddy. I went ahead and turned him out with a few very non-aggressive ponies I
have. Three minis, a Welsh 3 yr old, and Romantica'sXNickleback's colt, Benecio.
They had a three acre paddock to themselves so there was plenty of room for
everyone to have their own space if needed. I have to tell you, it was the
funniest thing I have ever seen. They all decided that Gatillo was king horse
and followed him everywhere like a train. There were no ears back and Gatillo
was not running from them, they were all running together. Then they all played
tag the rest of the afternoon and ate hay all huddled together like they were
long lost best friends! Too cute! He will still have to get accepted by the herd
leaders, but it was so nice that he made some friends so quickly. He is quite
the social butterfly!
He is even more beautiful than the pictures show! He is also sooo sweet. He
comes right up every time I go out in the paddock. I am in love already.
Thank you Brenda!!
Talk to you soon,
Jessica
